The writing style and vocabulary of the handbook is geared to persons with developmental disabilities, learning disabilities, physical disabilities, or communication problems associated with being deaf, blind, or having a speech impediment. The handbook first defines "wrong" sexual acts according to law and then briefly profiles perpetrators of such acts. Readers are then told what to do before, during, and after sexual battery, exploitation, or harassment. The same type of information is provided for a rape. A discussion of the victim's rights addresses legal rights at the hospital, legal rights regarding a report to the police, and legal rights in court. Procedures for reporting to and dealing with the police are discussed as are court procedures. Advice is offered the victim on whom to tell about the crime, dealing with guilt, feeling safe again, the dynamics of being raped by an acquaintance or family member, and who can help.
