The usual annual police department report with accounts data and statistical details is criticized for lack of useful evaluative information on the quality of police work. It is suggested that the following topics be included: accurate registration of crimes, documentation of response time to distress calls, analysis of repeated attendance and delays by court witnesses, individual case satisfaction measures in recovery of property instead of overall statistics, analysis of complaints received against the police, opinion polls concerning courtesy toward the public, and proper reports from timely field inspections. The National Police Commission (NPC) is credited with including most of these topics in its directive to the State Police organizations which suggests measures for evaluating group performance.
