Abstract

The directory is intended to be a valuable resource for criminal justice agencies when selecting an automated information management system that will meet their individual needs. The directory is divided into four parts: agency description records; system description records; indexes; and appendixes. Agency description records are based on information provided by individual agencies that responded to a national survey of criminal justice agencies. These records contain such information as agency address and telephone number, contact person, computer equipment, automated functions, and criminal justice software applications. Automated functions concern the number of full-time and part-time prosecutors, the number of criminal and civil cases filed, assignment attorneys, subpoena processing, and victim/witness control. System description records reflect survey responses from computer developers and vendors. These records include information on products and list agencies that have used the named products. Directory indexes enable readers to search the directory quickly and easily for information on agencies and systems. Appendixes list discipline-specific automated system functions, manufacturer abbreviations, the prosecution survey form, and the software developer/vendor survey form.
