The Centralized Infractions Bureau was created by the Judicial Department of Connecticut in October 1986 and handled all motor vehicle infractions. The advantages and disadvantages of centralizing infraction complaint processing are discussed along with the estimated cost of $350,000 to $500,000. Statutory and staffing changes required by the project are also identified, and the timetable for developing the CIB is outlined. The operation of the CIB is assessed along with conditions requiring transfer of an infraction complaint from the CIB to appropriate geographical area court locations. The implementation of the CIB resulted in uniform case processing and a decrease in staff workload. The CIB has become a successful part of the Connecticut judicial department. 3 footnotes.
