This booklet uses line drawings and text to explain the physical, psychological, and financial impacts of crime victimization and to suggest ways to adjust to the changes caused by crime and to return to a normal way of life.
Abstract
The text notes that many crime victims must learn to cope with changes in physical and mental health, outlook, and relationships with family and friends. Crime also causes physical injuries and financial hardships. Different victims recover at different rates, going through periods of shock, a struggle with feelings, and adjustment. The more that victims know about the legal system, the more comfortable they will feel as various procedures take place. Services to victims include victim/witness assistance programs, restitution, and victim compensation. Sources of personal help for victims include family and friends, law enforcement officers, victim advocates, medical personnel, and others. Suggestions for obtaining help.
