These 41 articles examine the correctional problems and issues discussed at the 1989 Winter Conference and the 119th Annual Congress of Correction sponsored by the American Correctional Association.
Abstract
The volume also includes the minutes of the conference delegate assemblies and the text of resolutions from the conferences. Topics discussed include the future of corrections, the experiences of correctional officers in overcrowded prisons, electronic monitoring of offenders, drug abuse treatment in corrections, the management of AIDS in correctional facilities, and ways to keep correctional staff safe and healthy. Other papers focus on policy changes, the management of adult institutions, the role of community corrections, the use of technology in corrections, the use of time management in corrections training programs, and the relationship between crowding and safety in juvenile facilities. Further papers focus on the role of public information, residential treatment for serious juvenile sex offenders, factors contributing to early relapse in addicted adolescents, personality disorders in offenders, and correctional standards and accreditation.
