This report attempts to reflect the level of juvenile crime in Nebraska in 1988 by analyzing the flow of juveniles through the three juvenile courts and 90 county courts in the State; the information in this report pertains to dispositions of juvenile cases and not to referrals.
Abstract
During the reporting period, 6683 juvenile cases reached final disposition in Nebraska courts, a 151-case decrease over 1987; 59 percent of all juvenile dispositions were processed by the three State juvenile courts. Nearly 60 percent were referred for major offenses, 28 percent for minor or status offenses, and 12 percent for neglect and dependent reasons. One in six referrals was for theft under $100; another 12.3 percent of the cases involved possession of alcohol. Over 40 percent of all referrals resulted in probation, while 46.6 percent of the neglect and dependent cases were referred to a public agency and 20 percent to a private agency. Males between the ages of 15 and 17 were most likely to be juvenile offenders and 68.2 percent of male referrals were for major offenses while 41.6 percent of female referrals were for major offenses. 16 figures, 18 tables.
