These standards of practice for the use of in-home aides for families with children are designed for use as goals for child welfare services; they reflect current knowledge, the developmental needs of children, and tested ways of meeting these needs effectively.
Abstract
An in-home aide service uses qualified family aides, parent educators, homemakers, or other helpers to help parents take control of their own lives and maintain the family unit for the children and other family members. The aide's role changes depending on whether the parent is in or out of the home, the amount of responsibility each parent can carry for the children, the number of children, and the duration of the service. The aide's main role is to assure that the children have both care and protection. Individual sections of the standards explain the role of the aide service as a child welfare service; the role of social work services in the aide program; the responsibilities and qualifications of the aide, the family social worker, and the aide supervisor; the recruitment, selection, training, and supervision of in-home aides; and agency policies and procedures and community resources to support the program.
