These organizations represent a vast, informal system of education through which members may learn a broad spectrum of skills, attitudes, and values. They offer a wide range of choices for children and adolescents looking for something to do, for older youths and adults looking for volunteer opportunities, and for those seeking career opportunities in the youth work field. All these organizations serve children and youth of high school age and under, foster groups conducted under adult supervision, are nonprofit, and are national in scope.
