A great deal of the post-release success of inmates depends upon the treatment received during incarceration.
Abstract
The success or failure of any specific treatment depends upon the support given by both the public and the prison administration. There are laws in support of basic K-12 education for those incarcerated. However, there is a tremendous gap in opportunities for these people when it comes to higher education. In an attempt to determine if post-secondary correctional education bears significant impact on the post-release success of past offenders, this study sought to determine if there was a lower rate of recidivism among those who had participated in post-secondary education while incarcerated as compared to the recidivism found among those who qualified for such a program but did not attend. 5 tables, 11 references.
