The survey was conducted in a southeastern State's field office, located in a town bordering a major metropolitan city. The office consisted of 14 field agents and 3 field supervisors. Agents' primary responsibilities included offender assessment, monitoring, and supervision. The survey instrument consisted of a checklist of all paperwork, and agents were instructed to check paperwork procedures that were extraneous to their duties as parole/probation agents. Survey results indicated that 83 percent of the field agents felt the Client Management Classification form and the Reassessment of Risk/Needs for client transfer were extraneous. Most felt the Monthly Pay Sheet Update, the Final Report at Termination, the Case Planning Sheet, and Face Sheet Case Codes were also extraneous. Overall, most agents indicated that large caseloads limited the time available to fill out paperwork and that paperwork and affiliated procedures could be streamlined. 8 references.
