Data on juvenile cases under State jurisdiction for 1933 cover trends in delinquency and dependency-and-neglect cases and case and offender characteristics; data on Federal juvenile-offender cases cover similar topics for the same period.
Abstract
Data on trends in the number of delinquency cases and on dependency-and-neglect cases cover 1927-33. Trends are distinguished by State and by the age, sex, and race of offenders. Court data for delinquency cases in 1933 cover the sex, age, and race of offenders; parent nativity; place of residence when referred to the court; parents' marital status; source and reason for referral to the court; place of care pending hearing or disposition; and case disposition. Data on dependency-and-neglect cases address similar topics. For both delinquency and dependency-and-neglect cases, data are provided on the reason for discharge from supervision and the length of time under supervision. For Federal juvenile offenders in 1933, data cover number of cases processed; geographic distribution; offenders' sex, race, and age; place of arrest; offense charged or reason for arrest; the period between arrest and disposition; release pending trial; amount of bail; and place and length of detention pending trial. Other data address case disposition, place and term of commitment, and transfer from Federal to State authorities. 50 tables.
