Abstract
Individual papers examine the nature, transmission, and epidemiology of AIDS and its personal impacts on the person with AIDS, the family, and other caregivers. Other papers explain theories, models, and research on health, risk, and decisionmaking, including the theory of reasoned action, the health belief model, and the roles of perceived self-efficacy and perceptions of personal susceptibility to harm. Further articles examine prevention in targeted populations, including homosexual men, ethnic minorities, women, and intravenous drug users. Additional papers explore needs in the areas of psychological training and research and describe the activities of the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, the National Institute on Drug Abuse, and the National Institute of Mental Health. Tables, figures, chapter notes and reference lists, and biographies of contributors.
