Abstract
The materials present research findings, program descriptions, and policy options on the various issues confronting police in responding to domestic-violence incidents. Publications include the report of the Attorney General's Task Force on Family Violence, a guide for criminal justice agencies in confronting domestic violence, and a book on civil protection orders (legislation, current court practice, and enforcement). A topical search of abstracts of publications on police response to domestic violence in the collection of the National Criminal Justice Reference Service is also provided. Various published papers and articles address the danger to police in domestic disturbances, the prevention of domestic violence against women, and the Crime File study guide on domestic violence. A State-by-State guide indicates in what States police have authority to make warrantless arrests based on probable cause in family-violence cases. Other topics discussed are the Omaha domestic violence police experiment, the Minneapolis domestic violence experiment, and the impact of mandatory arrest on offender counseling services.
