Drug policies in Denmark are similar to those in The Netherlands and are characterized by liberal attitudes and humanitarian concerns as well as an image in other countries that these two nations are havens for trafficking and distribution of drugs to nearby countries.
Abstract
Thus, the Swedes and Norwegians regularly criticize Denmark for its drug policies. Although Denmark is maintaining its relatively liberal policies regarding marijuana, its policies toward harder drugs have grown more repressive. However, awareness of the limited success of repressive approaches is growing. Thus, although those in favor of repressive policies have been dominant for many years, support appears to be growing for a discussion of the costs of control and the possible use of alternative strategies. Humanitarian arguments are unlikely to prevail, but arguments based on economics may be decisive. Footnotes, appended figures and tables, and 21 references.
