Individual papers focus on the work done by a probation team in a densely populated part of London, the major changes to a team approach that took place in probation practice in North Bedfordshire between 1976 and 1981, and the perceptions of eight probation teams' members regarding priorities and other aspects of community probation work. Further papers examine policy issues, including the roles of the social justice and social control models and the potential for local research projects designed to improve services to specific areas. A final article discusses the ways in which issues such as race, gender, and accountability will influence the development of a community probation strategy. The authors of the individual papers were all speakers at a workshop on probation held in March 1986. Chapter notes and references.
