The authors are young consultants from a variety of backgrounds, who wrote their papers as a result of a series of resolutions by the Economic and Social Council and the General Assembly. The introductory paper explores the assumption that youth could have an important part in advancing the United Nations objectives of peace, protection and promotion of human rights, and economic and social development. It also considers the nature and functions of international youth organizations and their general attitudes toward the establishment or strengthening of relations with the United Nations. Additional papers analyze the actual and potential participation by these organizations in the efforts of the United Nations, youth participation in United Nations decisionmaking, and the role of international youth conferences.
