Extracts from the Welfare and Institutions Code distinguish procedures for handling "wards" (juveniles beyond parental control and juvenile lawbreakers) of the juvenile court and "dependents" of the court (children abused or neglected by parents, children up for adoption, children without parental support, and children at risk of harm in the home). Extracts from the Welfare and Institutions Code also cover minors crossing the Mexican border, the composition and duties of the Youth Authority, the Youth Center and Youth Shelter Bond Act of 1988, the California Rehabilitation Center for juvenile drug abusers, and judicial admissions and commitments to institutions.
