Extracts from California law pertaining to youthful offenders include legislative changes made during the first year of the 1989-90 regular session of the California Legislature.
Abstract
Extracts from the Welfare and Institutions Code distinguish procedures for handling "wards" (juveniles beyond parental control and juvenile lawbreakers) of the juvenile court and "dependents" of the court (children abused or neglected by parents, children up for adoption, children without parental support, and children at risk of harm in the home). Extracts from the Welfare and Institutions Code also cover minors crossing the Mexican border, the composition and duties of the Youth Authority, the Youth Center and Youth Shelter Bond Act of 1988, the California Rehabilitation Center for juvenile drug abusers, and judicial admissions and commitments to institutions. Other extracts bearing upon juveniles are from the Penal Code, the Business and Professions Code, the Civil Code, the Code of Civil Procedure, the Education Code, the Government Code, the Health and Safety Code, the Labor Code, the Public Contract Code, and the Vehicle Code. Juvenile Court Rules are presented as well. For particular extracts, see NCJ 124212-124220.
