Extracts from the California Penal Code cover definitions and sanctions for various offenses that may involve juveniles, procedures for enforcing laws and managing offenders, and the establishment of various criminal justice agencies.
Abstract
The extract includes the Street Terrorism Enforcement and Prevention Act, which defines offenses and sanctions associated with the activities of criminal street gangs. A section on "peace officers" defines them, their powers, and their duties, followed by the provisions of the Adult Probation Law, which sets standards for the probation disposition. Another section establishes and defines the purposes of the Deuel Vocational Institution, an intermediate secure institution for young men too mature to be in juvenile institutions, but too immature to be in prison. Provisions for the establishment and operation of various criminal justice agencies pertain to the Board of Corrections, the California Council on Criminal Justice, the Office of Criminal Justice Planning, the Criminal Justice Planning Committee for the State Judicial System, and the Blue Ribbon Commission on Inmate Population Management. Other provisions from the extracts address the medical testing of inmates, including procedures for requiring HIV testing.
