Extracts from the California Government Code pertain to minimum standards for peace officer qualifications, the powers of the Health and Welfare Agency, victim compensation, and the State Public Defender.
Abstract
One provision specifies that conviction for a felony disqualifies a person from serving as a peace officer; minimum standards for peace officers are listed. Provisions delineating the rights of peace officers cover their right to engage in political activity, procedures for interrogating a police officer when possible punitive action is involved, and the protection of peace officer procedural rights. Provisions describe the composition, powers, and duties of the State Health and Welfare Agency, which encompasses the Departments of Health Services, Mental Health, Developmental Services, Social Services, Alcohol and Drug Abuse, Aging, Employment Development, and Rehabilitation. Provisions for State crime victim compensation are followed by statements on the duties and powers of the State Public Defender.
