A 1989 hearing before a California legislative committee used a dialogue among seven committee members and nine members and representatives of youth regarding the nature and impacts of peer counseling as a means for reducing the influence of gangs and drugs among California youth.
Abstract
Speakers included founders, directors, and members of the Omega Boys Club in San Francisco and staff of the Log Cabin Ranch, a juvenile facility in San Francisco. The youth members described their previous involvement in drug activity and told how the work with the club had helped them. The legislators noted that legislation had been introduced to provide increased funding and support for such programs.
