The opening chapter examines legal issues in preventing the transmission of AIDS and in preventing discrimination against persons infected with AIDS. This is followed by a discussion of the medico-legal aspects of AIDS, including aspects of treatment and consent, the confidentiality of medical records, and specific AIDS legislation. A chapter on social-welfare law as it bears upon the AIDS condition focuses on income support, housing benefits, social security benefits, and the application of the Independent-Living Fund and the Social Fund. Separate chapters discuss the application of various areas of law to the following circumstances faced by AIDS-infected persons: employment; immigration; powers of attorney, wills, and probate; health and life insurance; and the legal structures of voluntary organizations that provide services to AIDS patients.
