Student resource material is provided for 12 training modules in a course designed to teach probation and parole officers about all aspects of supervising and servicing drug abusers.
Abstract
The resource material is presented by module and supplies students with statistics and information pertinent to the learning goals and objectives of the module. Module I, entitled "Future Impact of Drug Use on Probation and Parole Agencies," features the National Institute of Justice's Drug Use Forecasting System, which involves voluntary interviews and drug testing for male arrestees in large cities. The second module examines the relationship between drug use and crime and contains statistics and reports from research that has examined links between drug use the nature and frequency of criminal behavior. Module III, "Creating and Implementing a Drug Program," discusses program organization and management. Other modules provide materials on drug abuse identification and assessment, drug screening and detection, the pharmacology of street drugs, drug abuse intervention and treatment, AIDS prevention for drug abuse programs, supervision and surveillance, the evaluation of drug abuse programs, legal issues, and resources.
