In this article the Minister of Justice discusses the background to sentencing reform in Canada.
Abstract
She then proceeds to describe six areas of proposed reform, including an overview of the changes under consideration in each area. The areas include: the purposes and principles of sentencing; a sentencing and parole commission; code of procedure and evidence at the sentencing hearing; the imposition and collection of fines; the Criminal Code as it relates to fines; intermediate sanctions. 1 note and 4 references.
