Participating officers received extensive training in narcotics enforcement in areas such as drug recognition and classification; search, seizure, and arrest procedures; case preparation; and court testimony through the use of specially developed videos. The importance of community involvement is recognized by the establishment of a new drug hotline. To help in this stepped up enforcement, the department acquired drug-sniffing dogs, the use of a Land Trak computer to plot the locations of drug violations; and increased coordination among the local prosecutor's office, Narcotics Division, and Uniformed Division. Guidelines are provided for other departments initiating such a program.
