These 26 papers examine the statistical and epidemiological issues involved in examining the relationship between alcohol and violence, accidents, and poisonings and present the results of research in several countries.
Abstract
Individual papers describe cross-cultural variations in drinking, drunken behavior, and casualty incidents and consider the statistical techniques that can be used to explore these relationships, the impact of culture and politics on the documentation of alcohol-related casualties, and the relationships between policy and research. The papers reflect research conducted in Australia, Canada, Finland, France, Mexico, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Switzerland, the United States, and Zambia and also review the literature on Latin America, Africa, Oceania, the United States, and Western Europe. A concluding section suggests future needs in research and policy. Figures, tables, chapter reference lists, subject and author indexes, and addresses of editors and contributing authors.
