This article presents the findings and a discussion of the Third Report from the Home Affairs Committee regarding higher education training for police and the Police Staff College (Bramshill) of March 1989.
Abstract
The report provides information collected from the College Commandant and representatives from the Home Office, A.C.P.O., the Police Federation, and the Police Foundation. It identifies problems in the application of ideas and method learned at Bramshill to improvement of policy within forces and in the application of training at the College to career development of individual police officers. Other issues addressed include selection of chief officers, Bramshill's academic status, covering curriculum, staff, resources, and research role. Funding and cost effectiveness of programs, future training implications, and policing philosophies are also discussed. 11 references.
