One essay states that etiological models that recognize the varied contributions of individual, situational, family, and societal variables are most useful and representative of the general knowledge concerning child maltreatment. Another essay presents the use of behavioral assessment techniques used in treatment of maltreating families and points out the importance of a comprehensive assessment approach which addresses a variety of areas of family functioning. The impressive gains in behavioral treatment of child abuse such as the successful application of child management skills training is discussed in a literature review essay.
