The original 1987 article was based on a 1983 Master's thesis which was based on studies published in 1982 and 1983. The currently available data will not allow social scientists to formulate and test a comprehensive theory of weather and crime; much research is needed on a larger scale than the 1987 original study. Cohn suggests the use of more indicators many of which the current official data collection does not tabulate. Greater detail of weather statistics, race or perpetrator-victim relationship, social class, sex or age differences in crime rates, and the size of city plus cultural demographics should be maintained nationally before Cohn's recommendations can be considered. 5 references.
