Abstract
The data is considered highly representative and sufficient to permit valid chronological, geographical, and trend analyses. The categories are those used by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) and include bombing and incendiary incidents; deaths, injuries, and property damage caused by explosives incidents; explosives incidents by motive; pipe bomb incidents; and types of fillers used in destructive devices. Also, there are analyses of explosives incidents directed against commercial targets, residential targets, and vehicular targets. The ATF has developed enforcement support programs designed to enhance the investigative capabilities of ATF special agents and State and local law enforcement officers. These programs include the National Response Team, forensic laboratory support, explosives technology support, computerized support, and explosives and arson profiling and training. Stolen explosives and recoveries are broken down and analyzed state-by-state. 22 tables, 10 figures, and glossary.
