Report of the Courts of Washington, 1989

NCJ Number
126197
Date Published
1989
Length
215 pages
Annotation
This 1989 report documents the activities of judicial organizations and committees in the State of Washington.
Abstract
The report opens with articles on caseflow management, technology, education, and gender and justice. A section on judicial leadership reports the actions of boards and committees whose efforts set the course of justice in Washington. The next four sections deal with significant events in the Supreme Court, the Court of Appeals, the Superior Court, and courts of limited jurisdiction. Extensive statistical tables provide data on court cases, filings, dispositions, and activities for 1985-1989. During 1989, the Board for Judicial Administration and the Court Management Council identified caseflow management as the top priority for Washington's judicial system. This was done because Washington's population is increasing dramatically and trial courts do not have sufficient resources to deal with increased filings. The priority placed on caseflow management is reflected in the type of information presented in the report. A special section is devoted to case management initiatives. Tables and figures
