A section on the drug problem considers State strategies for dealing with various types of drug-involved offenders, definition of the drug problem, the utility of various official data for drug enforcement programming, and the benefit of demonstration programs. A section on apprehension provides information on the Organized Crime/Narcotics Program, the Narcotics Trafficking Task Force Program, diversion control programs, the pharmaceutical diversion program, street-level heroin enforcement, and the development of drug control strategy. An information guide for police administrators and planners covers the marijuana eradication program, and information on the prosecution of major offenders addresses a statewide drug prosecution program and a career criminal prosecution program. A discussion of the adjudication of drug offenders includes a description of a program to reduce court delay. The section on detention and rehabilitation features a description of the Cook County (Illinois) Jail Substance Abuse Treatment Project. The section on treatment discusses and describes programs pertaining to the detection and monitoring of drug-using arrestees.
