This guide is designed to aid the training center director in planning and managing the training program for Florida correctional recruits.
Abstract
The section entitled "The Instructional Program" outlines the major topical areas of the curriculum and indicates the required minimum number of instructional hours for each major topic. The major topic areas for the curriculum are course introduction; weapons; legal issues; correctional rules, rights, and responsibilities; medical issues; inmate control; communications; interpersonal relations; investigations; correctional operations; physical security; and emergency preparedness. The minimum required number of hours for the curriculum is 411. The guide indicates the learning goals, objectives, and competency levels for each subtopic covered within the aforementioned major topics. The learning objectives outline the behavior expected of the student at the end of the instructional period. The level of learning indicated on each competency topic is either "proficient," which requires a working knowledge of the topic, or "oriented," which requires an intellectual understanding of the information. The section on course planning includes suggestions for scheduling, instructor qualifications, required materials, and facilities. The section on course management and evaluation contains suggestions for managing and evaluating the course.
