In 1981, the authors studied the operation of the Montreal Youth Court. They report on the recidivism which followed the sanctions imposed by the Court in 1981.
Abstract
Recidivism after age 18 varies in a linear fashion with severity of sentence, but the rise in severity of the sanctions is not what determines the decisions of the young person and of his criminal and judicial record. Therefore, a sentencing guide would be useful to reduce the arbitrariness of discretion. 4 tables, 1 note, and 33 references. (Author abstract)
