Program participation criteria include suggestion of drug use by present offense; prior arrest record showing drug use; and offender or community reports of current drug involvement. Offenders who initially tested positive were automatically entered into the Kentucky Substance Abuse Program treatment. Data analysis from 860 files provides information about pattern of abuses; profile of substance abusing offender; recidivism rate for offenders who tested positive and were referred for treatment; and the relationship between revocation results and drug test results. The results demonstrate how drug testing data can identify the substance abusing client and how the probation officers can use this information to refer the client for treatment and to send the offender to prison. 6 notes and 9 references
