Anonymous questionnaires were distributed to seniors at the same institution in 1969, 1978 and again in 1989. The 1989 results list lower frequencies of most all forms of drug use than the results from the two earlier surveys.
Abstract
The students who reported illicit drug use appeared little different from their nonuser counterparts on most measures of academic performance, college activities, and life style. Only visits to psychiatrists and sexual activity distinguished users from nonusers and neither of these variables appeared to be related to drug use in a direct cause-and-effect way. Further longitudinal studies were recommended along with the comment that the overall findings are optimistic. 6 references. (Author abstract modified)
