The CAL-ALERT data base would give police officers immediate access to information about parole, probation, registrant, and serious habitual offender status of a person stopped, as well as a method of informing probation and parole officers that their clients have had a law enforcement contact. The second data base, CAL-FIND, would help law enforcement officials give the public information about accident victims, persons in custody, or missing persons and inform the State witness protection program of the location of a person under supervision who has had a law enforcement contact. Survey findings indicate that the entire CAL-INFO program has virtual support among the State law enforcement community, which also wants the addition of the two new data bases to the system. Adding the new data bases would be more cost efficient than developing local, independent systems or creating a new Statewide system. 19 figures
