These 14 papers by 17 clinical practitioners describe the latest clinical methods and advances in treating sexual offenders and victims of sexual abuse, including sexually abused adolescents, child victims, adult survivors of child sexual abuse, and persons with mental retardation.
Abstract
The text also explains how to improve treatment for sexual offenders and avoid therapeutic pitfalls when working with them. Individual papers provide guidelines for using play therapy with sexually abused children, analyze the recovery stages of victims, and describe the impact of childhood sexual abuse on the spirituality of the adult survivors. Other papers present group-therapy approaches and give detailed guidelines on community-based treatment for offenders. Further papers provide a step-by-step teaching guide for training adults with mental retardation to protect themselves from sexual abuse, detail how to evaluate and treat adults with mental retardation who are sexually abusive, and explain how to train caregivers to recognize and report such behavior accurately.
