Twenty-eight percent were subsequently convicted for sexual offenses; 43 percent for violent offenses, and 59 percent for subsequent offenses of any kind. Subject convicted of these subsequent offenses were differentiated from those who did not by means of univariate and multiple discriminate analyses using personal characteristics, offense history data, and sexual preference testing data. Sexual and violent recidivism were well predicted by phallometricaly measured sexual interest in nonsexual violence and degree of psychopathy, as accurately as when using all of the study predictors. The data support a theory that differentiates rape as a manifestation of criminal lifestyle and an exploitive approach to others. Note, 4 tables, and 17 references (Author abstract modified)
