Abstract
No women were sentenced to death until 1973. Seventy-five women were sentenced to death over the 1973-1990 period, 1.8 percent of the total number of death sentences. In 1989, the death sentence for female offenders doubled to 10 from the 5 of the previous year, but dropped to 3 in 1990. The female offenders are identified by name, race, state, date of crime and sentence, and current status of the sentence.
