The demographic characteristics of New York State inmates who have died of Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) are presented as is the AIDS disease profile in the New York State Department of Correctional Services facilities.
Abstract
The current status of AIDS correctional cases is introduced and followed by an explanation of the report's methodology including data sources, variables, data sample, collection, and analysis. The demographic characteristics considered in this analysis include risk behaviors, race, marital status, children, age, time in correctional system, and opportunistic infection at time of death. The disease profile section examines the inmates' disease progression in terms of average time in the system, average time between entry into the system to onset of the disease, time between confirmation of illness and death, and time of final hospitalization. Survival rates and interpretive analyses on quality of care are also presented. 5 tables and 10 figures
