This project aimed to transfer the experience and expertise of a successful elder abuse prevention consortium model operating in San Francisco to four new sites nationally. It also hoped to refine the San Francisco model by establishing and testing community outreach and minority development program components.
Abstract
The San Francisco model provides legal, medical, counseling, case management, and protective services to elder abuse victims. It employs interagency cooperation and coordination in designing treatment plans, providing services, and identifying obstacles to service delivery. In transferring the experience of the San Francisco model to other sites, project staff and consultants assisted in assessing service and training needs, developed interagency coordination and multidisciplinary review and management entities, provided training materials and identification and response protocols, and devised measurable objectives and survey instruments. Project staff were also to disseminate project findings via a national mailing list, publish a site development manual and associated reports, and publish project results in professional journals.
