A survey reports that the number of parole officers in the United States is expected to increase, and their average entry level salary will be $19,103.
Abstract
All 50 states, the District of Columbia, and Federal systems of the United States and Canada responded to the survey; 38 systems reporting that they expect or hope to add parole officer positions. Nine states expect to maintain the same levels and only three states were uncertain or unable to predict. Entry level salaries range from $12,768 in West Virginia to $31,644 in California. Federal U.S. officers start at $18,358, while Canadian officers earn $30,717 (Canadian dollars). All but six of the departments require entry level applicants to have a bachelor's degree or equivalent in work experience. Iowa and Kansas require an associate degree with two years experience. Other requirements may include being at least 21 years old, having a driver's license, passing merit or other examinations, providing documentation of a clean felony record, and being physically able to do the work.
