Data from the Uniform Offense Reports compiled by local jurisdictions and reported to the Kentucky State Police form the basis of this analysis of violent crime in rural and suburban areas of Kentucky during 1988.
Abstract
The analysis included homicide, assault and related offenses, kidnapping and related offenses, robbery, and sex offenses such as rape. The analysis showed that 244 violent crimes and 316 arrests for violent crimes occurred for each 100,000 residents. Some incidents involved multiple offenders, and some arrests were for crimes that took place in previous years. Assault represented 67 percent of the reported violent crimes; sex offenses, 21 percent; robbery, 7 percent; homicide, 3 percent; and kidnapping, 2 percent. Offenders were typically young, white males, and victims were usually not family members. Violent crime was most prevalent during the warm months of the year and on weekends. Figures
