This report presents the results of a World Health Organization (WHO) consultation held November 20-24, 1989 in Cologne on the implementation of alcoholism prevention programs in the workplace setting.
Abstract
The WHO consultation discussed the need for intervention in alcohol beverage consumption and alcohol problems and identified the drinking patterns and their influence on alcohol-related problems. Particular focus was placed on high-risk groups from the aspect of alcohol availability, high-risk work situations, and alcohol beverage consumption as an instrumental behavior. The setting for alcoholism prevention problems, drinking patterns relevant to the prevention, and motivation and resistance to the prevention programs were covered. A discussion of the planning stages addressed the components of an alcohol prevention program, and its implementation and management. The report concluded with a examination of the rationale for an evaluation of this type of program and pertinent evaluation data and methodology. 3 figures
