An introductory survey reviews Federal and U.S. Supreme Court criminal procedure decisions. The survey specifically deals with search and seizure, electronic surveillance, the exclusionary rule, self-incrimination, grand jury proceedings, double jeopardy, speedy and public trials, pretrial proceedings, guilty pleas, evidence, sentencing, probation and parole, and appeals. The first section of the volume examines fourth amendment issues, particularly sobriety checkpoints, the pretext search doctrine, technologically enhanced visual surveillance, and privacy rights. The second section considers sixth amendment issues, including an adversary system defense of the right to counsel against informants. The third section of pretrial proceedings focuses on dangerousness, preventive detention, government secrets and the Classified Information Procedures Act, and disclosure and accuracy in the guilty plea process. The fourth section discusses trials, while the final section explores professional responsibilities in the context of client confidences, client perjury, and prosecutorial investigations. In general, all selected articles concern procedural issues related to constitutional or statutory cases with broad applicability. Footnotes
