The key note addresses on the first day described a day in the life of a United Nations interpreter and examined effects of dialectal differences on communication. Workshop topics included short-term memory and note taking; Spanish dialectology, self-monitoring during interpretation; interpretation as a profession; and training and credentialing court interpreters. Linguistic perspectives on court interpreting and a definition of court interpreters were covered in keynote addresses of the second day of the conference. Presentations dealt with an overview of family case processing and its significance for court interpreting; rules of direct and cross examination; and criminal case processing and accent reduction. An alphabetical list of the faculty providing the presentations is appended including background information such as current affiliation or employment, education, publications and other professional information.
