Data is presented in table form and encompasses five major areas: (1) offenses reported or known to police and alleged offenders apprehended, (2) criminal matters finalized in Magistrates' Courts, (3) criminal matters finalized in the Supreme and District courts, (4) adult offenders subject to programs administered by the Department of Correctional Services, and (5) appearances before Children's Courts and Children's Aid Panels by alleged juvenile offenders. The Office of Crime Statistics notes that the data presented in this document is not comprehensive. It does not address prosecutions of minor traffic offenses or breaches of local government by-laws.
