The model can be used in school, child and family agencies, and other settings with competent and trained resource people who are knowledgeable about family violence issues. It consists of 10 weekly sessions that last 90 minutes each. Teams of male and female counselors run the groups and serve as role models for appropriate male-female interactions. The model is aimed at children from ages 8 to 18. Topics examined include confidentiality, definitions of violence, labeling of feelings, dealing with anger, safety skills, social support, social competence, self concept, responsibility for violence, and wishes about the family. Children should also be allowed to take part in group sessions beyond the 10 weeks to deal with attitudinal and behavioral issues in more detail.
