The intake process at the two homes begins with the receipt of a completed referral package which receives a priority rating upon arrival at ARFC. When the child arrives at St. Clare's, a process is initiated to find a long-term environment for the child. St. Clare's offers many services to children and their families including medical, social, family involvement, foster parent training, respite care, emergency placement, and discharge planning. A case example of one resident is provided. The ARFC has also established Haller House Family Resource Center to provide various programs and services to individuals and families trying to cope with the effect of AIDS. St. Clare's is designed to provide a transitional function; in this vein, potential foster parents are given the opportunity to know the infant or child and to become familiar with various aspects of HIV infection and existing support services. St. Clare's works with the staff in dealing with the transitional nature of their relationships with the children and with the families to assure their financial support. 1 figure and 1 table
